Emirates opens ‘SkyPharma’ facility at Dubai

DUBAI: September 18, 2016. – Emirates SkyCargo has opened a 4,000 sq. mt. 'SkyPharma' facility at Dubai International Airport for handling pharma shipments between 2-8C and 15-25C degree Celsius.

EK Sultan and Bureau Veritas manLast year the airline shipped nearly 11,000 tonnes of pharma products via Dubai including critical medication for diabetes and cancer, active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), blood derivatives and vaccines.

Emirates has also been awarded a certification of compliance by Bureau Veritas under the EU Good Distribution Practice guidelines (GDP). The audit covered all handling and storage throughout the airline's dual hubs in Dubai, as well as the bonded road link between them, plus quality management, product integrity, security and staff training.

The carrier says its GDP-certified area of 8,600 sq. mt. covering Dubai International and Dubai World Central is the largest in the world.

"Throughout the audit process we found strong evidence of Emirates SkyCargo's commitment across all levels to delivering high quality and secure transportation for pharmaceutical products," declared Ahmad Chaouk, vice president, Sales & Marketing, Middle East, India, Caspian Sea & Africa Operating Group, Bureau Veritas; (right of picture with Nabil Sultan).

"Pharmaceuticals are one of the most important products we transport because of the impact on people's lives and communities across the world," added Nabil Sultan, Emirates divisional senior vice president, Cargo. "As a leader in the global air cargo industry we decided that it was not only important for us to build state-of- the-art cool chain facilities for the transport of pharma products but to also go the extra mile and ensure the compliance of our operations against the highest international standards."
